Press Release
MobileGates and ESRI partner to provide complete web and wireless mapping features to m-commerce systems.
MobileGates adds robust color mapping to their cellular phone-based mobile commerce tool set, extending their customer relationship management reach.
La Palma, California, July 23, 2003 —MobileGates and ESRI announced the release of a mobile mapping product that ties together ESRI’s robust mapping features with MobileGates MG-Mapping Module. The MG-Mapping Module is one of five in a suite of integrated m-commerce tools, designed to work in conjunction with MobileGates other products, MG-CRM, MG-Collaboration, MG-Storebuilder, and MG-Pay. MobileGates mobile commerce application development software enables customers to extend the reach of their products, services, website content, and CRM efforts to anywhere cell phones operate.
ESRI announced that MobileGates has successfully implemented ESRI's GIS software and web services into their location-based applications using Motorola’s i58 and i88 handsets over the NEXTEL iDEN network. "ESRI is a proud to see our developer community building location-based applications that make use of the GPS API available from NEXTEL and Motorola", says Jon Spinney, location-based services industry manager, ESRI. "Our business partners and developers are building tracking, dispatching, and emergency services applications that are helping enterprises and governments communicate and act more effectively, empowering them to make better decisions faster, helping them cut costs and streamline their operations." The NEXTEL GPS API allows developers to use i58 and i88 handsets as GPS receivers. This allows ESRI GIS developers to build location-based applications easily and inexpensively.
"We use ESRI's ArcWeb as part of our mobile commerce software platform to offer our customers a way to augment their own customer relationship management efforts. With our proprietary software and ESRI's superior mapping tools, phone users can locate a local pizza parlor or pull up new driving directions to work around a recent traffic alert, which is another feature MobileGates offers. Our core technology can determine the exact location of a caller without the use of GPS, so users can pull up a map based on their current locations," says Tony Meador, CEO, MobileGates.
"Using ESRI's mapping infrastructure allows us to focus on our "core," location-centric technology. Using ESRI's suite of products, we can provide a rich wireless platform that provides easy-to-use personalized applications that run on hundreds of phones, including the i58 and i88." says Meador.
"MobileGates' wireless API makes it easy for our customers to avoid the costly investment in wireless commerce and wireless carrier relationship management required to put their business onto cellular phones," Meador concluded.
